SAFDARJANG'S TOMB

The last of the great Mughal's monuments, this graceful marble domed mausoleum standing on a high terrace amidst a well-tended garden, is a son's tribute to his father. Located at the end of Lodhi Road, it was built in 1753-54 by Nawab Shia-ud-Daulah, son of Safdarjang. Safdarjang, who died in 1753, was the 2nd Nawab of Awadh and Prime Minister to Mughal Emperor Ahmed Shah. The 900ft square of three storeys has various smaller pavillions. The central hall supports a bulbous dome with marble minarets. Over the main gateway is a library maintained by The Archaeological Survey of India.
